Page Layouts are fundamental in Rhino to arrange the architectural drawings generated by VisualARQ and Rhino, and to prepare the sheets in order to deliver the project documentation.
In these video series, created by Mary Fugier (McNeel) from the Rhino Tutorials, you can learn the basics of working with page layouts: how to arrange views of both 2-D and 3-D models on the title block at different scales, how to prepare the layout for printing, and how to add annotations to the layout, like text, dimensions and plot to a PDF.

They are here! Layouts are in Rhino for Mac 5.2 or later. In this this video, Mary Fugier of McNeel will show you how to add and configure a layout. In Rhino for Windows there is a separate command for doing that (ChangeSpace) but you can always just cut dimensions or geometry in the modeling space, go to a layout, and paste the stuff there. Rhino for Mac. June 14, 2017. If I click the small + button to bring up the new dimension style option and click any of the given option Rhino shuts down, this has now happened 3 times. If you are having trouble seeing the dimension on the screen, are you in layout or model. Model scale for model is set in the style. I know nothing about CAD but want to use it for my new CNC machine. I am going to hire someone eventually but in the mean time just fooling around.
I imported a step file of an object from this site into Rhino Cad but for the life of me cannot figure out what it's dimensions are? Please no rocks and bottles!

Dimensions always measure as though the object were projected to the current construction plane.
1. use linear dimension for measuring length and width measurements.
2. use aligned dimension for diagonal measurements.

You could also try the distance comand. If you have the project snap selected you will measure in the same plane. You wil want to select either top front or right view when selecting your points
Hello
I would go to Analyze on the top , next to the tools, and choose distance , make sure Osnap is on ( Mid, End, Quad and etc..) then click from end to end. Also you have the obtion to change the unit, from mm. to inches or others.

I'd just type 'distance' in the rhino command line and use the various snap options to snap to points i want to measure from or to. The resulting 'distance' as well as other handy info is returned in the command history listing above the command line. All this is assuming you only want to 'measure' something as opposed to 'dimensioning it'.
'distance' measures distance from pt-1 to pt-2. If you want to measure angles, use the command 'angle' and tell rhino which lines to use to measure the angle.
To get quick help on either (or any) command, type the command in, press 'spacebar' or 'enter' and while rhino is asking you for more input, press F1 to go directly to the help page for the command you are currently executing.
hi, shawn norbert
Once the dimensions are created , if you want to edit the dimesion just double click ( Left mouse button) and write/ label the desired text.
There is another way for editing dimensions,
use command # object properties

There should be a measure option inside Rhino cad where you can check how big it is.
That will be my first answer here, English is not my first language. Said this I will try to help you.
There is a grid in the background that can help you to figure that. You can choose how that grid is used: Inches, meters, millimeters.. etc.
You can use the different command that Rhino has for measures: '_Dim, _Pause, _DimAligned, _DimRotated'..etc
It will be easier if you use the snap help to pick the points that you need to measure: 'End, near, point, etc..'
If you import the file in a template the grid in the back can be any of the options, metric or imperial, or one prepared for you.
I hope that this will be clear enough.

Hi, in Rhino you can use the option ' boundingbox' to late rhino put a box to the maximal size of your object. Then with the option dimension you can mesure the bounding box.
You can of course use the dimension option en just click the part that you want to mesure !

as fred said, you can use the dimension command, i use version 4.0, and in it, there is a button on the top bar that calls the command,m or you can just type 'dimension' in and press enter and that will give you the distance between two points as text on your drawing.

Use your Help file and do the Tutorials. It does take long, but it is the best way to learn the rite way from the beginning.
Do a screen shot by pressing these buttons in brackets 'Ctrl' and 'PrtScrn' at the same time. Open windows Paint program and paste.
Hope it helped.
Also do not forget measuring volumes and areas, also under the 'analyse menu'
how do I change a dimension once it has been created in rhino? that is to say once I create a dimension with the ' linear dimension tool' and its 5 inches, how do I change it to 6 inches, or to 1 foot for that matter?? there doesn't seem to be an option to change the actual width or height of the dimension once it is created.
Hi
Go to the analyse button and the drop downs will lay it all out for you then play.
Have fun

During modelling process I use very often the button called 'Length' that measures length of curves or edges (s. enclosed icon picture). Just click on it, select the curve or egde and in the command line you will find the curve or edge measurement. It serves as a control tool. Fast and reliable. Better way Is
1) Type In command 'length' It will ask for Length of curve
2)Select Edge of any Object or curve
3)By dimension You Couldn't Get Curve Length Or Circle Circumference.
4)for Zigzag Or Irregular Shape You can Use This Command

Using the <alt> key opens up many options with minimal keystrokes. <alt> a then L (lower case, just didn't want to confuse L with I) goes direct to Analyze Length. When using <alt> all top level menus can be accessed by one letter, followed by the submenu pick. Some submenus require mouse action for the final pick.. mainly <alt> <C>urve <F>illet plus mouse pick or <alt> <C>urve <O>ffset plus mouse pick. Most popular are <alt> 1+2 steps. Transform/move (<alt> t then m), transform/rotate (<alt> t then r), mirror about parent line (<alt> t then i), etc. <alt> controlled options appear with the first letter underlined. Main thing is it opens up top level with ability to go submenu with very little effort.Submenus sometimes require added cursor pick on action desired.
